This assignment is intended to help you synthesize a cognitive developmenttopic and communicate the main points effectively. You are writing for the generalpublic. This means you must define terms and set up the reader with the necessary background material.IT WOULD BE THREE PAPERS BASED ON THE SAME TOPIC SUCH AS EXAMPLES 1,2,3 ATTACHTED FIRST PAPER IS DUE FEB 20 SECOND PAPER IS DUE MARCH 20 THIRD PAPER IS DUE APRIL 10 Search for an article related to the topic either on OneSearchLinks to an external site., Google Scholar (Links to an external site.), or the PsycInfo Database Links to an external site.linked from the Oviatt Library. Please make sure the article:(a) is peer-reviewed (be sure to toggle or check this option in your search options)(b) is an empirical article (i.e., original research based on observations; one clue is that it will include a Method section)I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER CLASS ASKING FOR THIS EXACT SAME ASSIGNMENT IT WOULD JUST HAVE TO BE ON A DIFFRENT TOPIC.FIRST PAPER DUE MARCH 1 SECOND PAPER DUE MARCH 30 THIRD PAPER DUE APRIL 20THE TOP ONES THAT NEED TO BE DONE ASAP IS PAPER 1 FEB 20 AND MARCH 1 BOTH WOULD BE DIFFERENT TOPICSCADV 350- Applied Cognitive Development
Guidelines for Research Critique
25 Points
During the course of the semester, you will be required to write three research article
critiques. This assignment is intended to help you synthesize a cognitive development
topic and communicate the main points effectively. You are writing for the general
public. This means you must define terms and set up the reader with the necessary
background material.
The research articles you select should be peer-reviewed journals or empirical studies that
are either qualitative or quantitative. Studies should be current and within the last 5-7
years. Please be sure to properly cite references (APA format) throughout your paper.
There is no set number of pages for this assignment because the number of pages will
depend on how long your research article is. However, your paper should be no less then
3 pages (not including the title and reference pages), double-spaced with 12pt. font.
Title Page
1 Point
Use an interesting title that includes something alluring, followed by the key idea of the
paper. For example, “Maybe they are just looking? How pre-kindergarteners spend their
time” An interesting graphic should accompany the title and at the bottom right-hand
corner of the page should be:

Hypothesis/Research Question(s)
5 Points
Give a brief introduction to give the necessary background to the study and state its
purpose. This section is critical to the critique since most readers will not be
knowledgeable enough to understand the reason why the study was done or the
significance of the results that follow later.

Why was the study conducted? What was the goal?
What hypothesis were being tested?
What did the researchers seek to uncover?
Why is their topic an important research question?
Who is the intended audience?
Include key terms and their operational definitions using direct quotes and citing
with (author, date, p. xx).

APA note: Begin the paper by including the authors (all must be included the first
time you mention the study, but subsequently you can mention the first author et
al.) and the date.
Methodology
This section should describe the specifics of what this study involved.
5 Points
a. What are the characteristics of the participants: ages, number of subjects, and
special features of the sample, including whether the study used random or
convenience sampling? Be sure to include how many boys/girls, cultural and
language variables, etc.
b. Location of study (homes, clinics, school, lab)
c. Design: such as survey, casual-comparative, single-subject, narrative,
ethnographic, etc.
d. Procedure- how were subjects recruited? What exactly took place? In other words,
what was the experience of the participants?
e. Instrumentation- what kinds of data were collected? How did the researchers
gather their data?
f. Statistics used- such as ANOVA or Linear Equation Modeling
Findings
5 Points
This section should discuss the major findings and results. Do not attempt to itemize each
result since most papers report many. Discuss the most significant results and indicate
how they address the questions presented in your hypothesis section.
a. What were the findings related to the hypothesis? Be sure to include p vales to
show the strength of the findings in parentheses such as: girls used more
emotional terms (such as angry, scared, and tired) compared to boys (p
